Hi, my name is Mike and you’ve most likely seen me running around the clinic taking care of things. I manage the practice along with my wife, Robin, and son, Cory.
My doctor has been telling me for years to lose weight by eating right and exercising more, but I never had much success on my own. Like many of us, I'm well aware that losing weight and exercising more could benefit me in many different ways: helping to lower blood pressure, improve heart health, act as a protection against diabetes, and more. Diets seem to work in the short term, but are hard to sustain as weight comes back after you reach your goal weight. And exercise can be extremely difficult for those with joint pain. For example, did you know that for each pound you are overweight adds 4 pounds of additional pressure on your joints? Imagine that. Fifty extra pounds is like 200 to your joints.
Robin and I started the Healthy Lifestyle program the day after Thanksgiving and have been amazed at how easy this program is. Even with all the holiday goodies, we were still losing weight every day. After four weeks, I was down 20 pounds and my blood pressure dropped 40 points. By March, we each lost 35+ pounds and are on track to reach our goal weights within weeks.
The key appears to incorporate healthy habits into your lifestyle, one habit at a time. Most who participate in this program have lost substantial weight and kept it off for years afterward. It's a six-step process, with achieving your goal weight as Step No. 1. The remaining part of the program dives into helping you create lifelong healthy habits.
